Actually, there is a list of many of the removed books. A few Sonlight moms from a couple of continents put it together and I am happy to say I was one of the moms. You can find the list here: http://www.hslaunch.com/mypage/file/4988

I just finished reading Listening for Lions and it was fantastic. My next scheduled book is Here's a Penny. I will let you know what I think. Penny is a boy who finds adventure. The author also wrote "B" is for Betsy. It looks like a great choice for Core A.

That sounds so fun, Jill! I'm thinking about getting the books that were new to Core A this year to add to our schedule. They look like a lot of fun. I'll still keep the old books, of course! They're all wonderful. It would be so fun if Sonlight kept a list of all removed books from cores, so that people could get them to supplement. I'm really curious about "Here's a Penny," I couldn't find a summary when I looked it up. I'll have to check if anybody's reviewed it yet.

I think it varies a lot from state to state and using an umbrella school sounds like a great choice in your situation. We live in Kentucky. We do not have umbrella schools here. My kids went to University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University with homeschool transcripts. I have found that through the years more and more universities and colleges, and even the military, accept homeschool transcripts and the number is growing year by year.

This is very thorough!! The colleges that my daughter wants to attend, our big state college, require verification for each course on the homeschool transcript, which would mean four SAT subject tests, in addition to her SAT. So we have found a helpful, "umbrella" school which will give my daughter her credits based on our homeschool work, and will issue a transcript. They require documentation from us, which we found not hard to do, and I am glad to know there are still some colleges that accept a homeschool transcript itself!

I love that this post is dated my oldest child's 5th birthday. :) It was about that time that I stopped pushing my son to read on his own and decided that I would just read to him until he wanted to do it on his own. Even the Bob Books. No more coaxing, no more bribery. Just snuggling up with the sound of mommy's voice narrating a great picture book.

That's a great story. Thanks for sharing. I am just beginning homeschooling (my kids are ages 5, 4, 2, and1) and I have tried quoting statistics and such with no change in thier attitude. I always think though "just wait, they'll see!"
